CAPTAIN AWARENESS: ASSAULT ON CAMPUS
2-D Graphics isreleasing a special series of cartoon books to promote awareness of issuesof concern to school campuses (such as assault, drug and alcohol abuse, and gun violence) and to educate students about each problem--what it is,how to prevent it, and what to do if it happens to them or to someone theyknow--as well as to inform campus faculty on how to help victims. This revolutionary new concept in education involves CAPTAIN AWARENESS,a super-hero who promotes awareness and battles real-life problems whichthreaten society. This format--which features easy-to-read wordsand graphics--will appeal to a wider audience (including both males andfemales, of all ages) that would not be likely to pick up a book or pamphletabout such issues, but might pick up a super-hero cartoon book, not knowingthat they will be educated as well as entertained. Earlier booksstarring such characters as the TEEN TITANS and SPIDER-MAN have been successfulin promoting awareness of drug and child abuse, proving that "comic books"can be socially relevant as well as entertaining, but there has yet tobe a regular series of such books directly marketed to students that dealswith these subjects in a sensitive and educational manner...until now.
CAPTAIN AWARENESS:ASSAULT ON CAMPUS is the first issue in this series, which deals witha growing problem in our society, violence against women. Based on a survivor'strue story, it has been written in conjunction with the American Women'sSelf-Defense Association and has been reviewed and approved by theAmericanCollege Counseling Association and various other organizations. CAPTAIN AWARENESS is published in full color, with text features on assaultprevention, and additional artwork that has been donated by such top graphicartists as Norm (BATMAN) Breyfogle, Dan (SUPERMAN) Jurgens, George (TEENTITANS) Perez, Trina (WONDER WOMAN) Robbins, and Mike (SPIDER-MAN)Wieringo. CAPTAIN AWARENESS will also be accompanied by a full-scalepublicity campaign, including coverage in TV and print media, and personalappearances by the artists at bookstores and conventions.
CAPTAIN AWARENESS:ASSAULT ON CAMPUS is now available for release to victim service organizations, counseling centers, and libraries for distribution to middle and high schools, and colleges. CAPTAIN AWARENESS: ASSAULT ON CAMPUS is also beingsold in bookstores on a nationwide basis, with a portion of the profitsfrom any copies sold to be donated to the American Women's Self-DefenseAssociation. After the initial print run has been sold, CAPTAINAWARENESS: ASSAULT ON CAMPUS will be reprinted to meet continuing demandfor new students.
