CAPTAIN AWARENESS Creators Sign Books at Mega-Con:
CAPTAIN AWARENESS creator D.
DeAngelo was joined at the annual Mega-Con
in Orlando, FL, by contributing artists Colleen Doran, Dick Giordano,
Jimmy Palmiotti, George Perez, and Alex Ross. All six
creators were on hand to sign over 200 copies of CAPTAIN AWARENESS: ASSAULT
ON CAMPUS for a special Autographed Edition now available through
2-D Graphics (see the How
to Order section for more information). 2-D Graphics appreciates
these creators taking time out of their busy schedules to contribute to
such a worthy cause. Keep watching this space for further updates
on upcoming convention appearances by other CAPTAIN AWARENESS contributors.
CAPTAIN AWARENESS on eBay:
2-D Graphics
will periodically be offering copies of CAPTAIN AWARENESS: ASSAULT ON CAMPUS
(both signed and un-signed copies) and original art at discounted prices
on eBay. If you've been contemplating ordering one of our books or
an original art page in the past, this is your chance to place your bids
before they are all gone! Be sure to check out our auction listings
at the following link: http://cgi6.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewListedItems&userid=ddangelo1.
CAPTAIN AWARENESS T-Shirt, and Portfolio Soon Available:
2-D Graphics will be re-offering
the
Captain Awareness T-shirt by artist Mike Wieringo and
CAPTAIN AWARENESS creator D. DeAngelo at a new price, and also a
new Captain Awareness Portfolio that is being produced by Character
Graphics in Boston, MA. The Portfolio includes pin-up pages from
CA:AOC by superstar artists Norm Breyfogle, Dan Jurgens & Gordon
Purcell, Phil Jimenez, and Mike Wieringo & D. DeAngelo,
as well as all-new pin-ups by up-and-coming artists from Focus Studios
(sample illustration shown below). Due to the fact that some last-minute
alterations were made to Captain Awareness' costume in the first issue,
some of the pin-ups had to be re-drawn to reflect this in the final publication.
However, the Portfolio will present the original, un-edited artwork
by artists such as Norm Breyfogle and Dan Jurgens, enabling fans to see
these pin-ups as they were originally meant to be seen for the first
time!
Keep watching this space for
updates on solicitation dates in Diamond's PREVIEWS catalog, so you can
be sure to place your order on time (you can also order any of the above
merchandise directly from 2-D Graphics on this website, under the How
to Order section).
CAPTAIN AWARENESS BECOMES MAJOR IMPACT:
Captain Awareness will be receiving
a promotion of sorts when the character takes on a new look and becomes
known as MAJOR IMPACT. Captain Awareness has been very well
received, and based on some of the feedback we have gotten from our readers,
we decided to update the character to make it even better! Check
out the new uniform for Major Impact below, and you can see that the character
looks more dynamic than ever! Of course, Major Impact will continue
in the tradition of Captain Awareness by promoting awareness of issues
such as child abuse and drunk driving, and the character's new look should
help to make an even greater "impact" on these issues.
As for Captain Awareness, we
won't be retiring that character just yet. 2-D Graphics will continue
to market the first CAPTAIN AWARENESS: ASSAULT ON CAMPUS book, as well
as the upcoming portfolio and T-shirt, and we may continue to make use
of the traditional Captain Awareness name & uniform for other special
projects.
Major Impact debuts in a new
animated website story from Orbit Comics (see the article below),
which has also been published in printed format as part of the FRIENDS
OF LULU: STORYTIME anthology book to benefit the Friends of Lulu
(see the other article below). Major Impact also appears in upcoming issues
of Cartoonists Across America's WINGED TIGER series (see yet another
article below). Keep checking this space for further updates.
CAPTAIN AWARENESS & MAJOR IMPACT Join the Fight to Promote Literacy:
At Wizard World's Chicago ComiCon,
CAPTAIN AWARENESS creator D. DeAngelo hooked up with Phil Yeh,
founder of Cartoonists Across America
& The World and made plans to work together on future projects.
Cartoonists
Across America & The World is an organization of cartoonists who
produce books & projects to promote literacy through the use of cartoons.
Phil Yeh has been touring the world for the past 15 years promoting literature
& the arts to students through his cartoon characters, such as Theo
the Dinosaur and Patrick Rabbit. Phil's current series, WINGED TIGER,
focuses on creativity and features contributions from various celebrity
artists who tell the readers in their own words where they get their ideas
from. D. DeAngelo, along with creations Captain Awareness and Major
Impact, was featured in issue #4, which is still available. Major
Impact will also continue to make appearances in future issues of the series,
and DeAngelo will be making personal appearances with Cartoonists Across
America, so be sure to keep checking this space (as well as CAA's websites)
for future details.
